Roadmap to acheiving SDG 14 using microbial innovations
The UN has set Sustainable Development Goals to be reached by 2030 to ensure the prosperity of our planet. Among these is the Life Below Water Goal to protect and sustainably use oceans.

Among these pressing issues caused by anthropogenic reasons and climate change are ocean acidification, marine pollution, and declining marine habitats. Microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, archaea, and microalgae could play a critical role in aiding these issues as they are highly adaptive, multi-functional, and metabolically diverse organisms. However, the pathway to using microbial innovations to achieve SDG 14 has not been investigated. I am currently writing a literature review on the limitations of using microbes to reach SDG 14 targets and how they can be overcome.
